Reviewers sometimes compared her to Thomas Hardy . In her short stories . she shows women bitter and deformed by lack of opportunity, but also humorous and resourceful; at her best she is a counterpart of Mary E. Wilkins Freeman ." - Kemp, Mitchell and Trotter, Edwardian Fiction, p. 109-110. Almost all of the author's books are now scarce. Bookplate of Philip Sassoon, cousin of the poet Siegfried, and a prominent aristocrat, politician, socialite and collector, affixed to front paste-down. Some scattered foxing, mostly edges and margins of text block, a very good copy. Scarce. (#113873).
