First edition hard back binding in publisher's original Chieftain goatskins, dyed the exact shade of RAF wool-barathea wartime uniform fabric. The front cover is a bronze bas-relief of an anonymous crew-member cast in bronze, recessed and bonded into the cover, this was created by the famous sculptor, James Butler RA, the marker ribbon of blue silk printed with the motto of RAF Bomber Command, 22 carat gold edging. 4to. 13¼'' x 10''. The print run is strictly limited to 401 copies, No. 1 being presented to HM The Queen, this copy being number 173. Each copy bears the handwritten signatures of the twenty-five selected personal from Bomber Command: Wt Off G. Avery; Sir Michael Beetham; Wt Off D. M. Board; Wt Off G. W. 'Danny' Boon; Sqn Ldr L. Pocket inside the box holds original prospectus giving in-depth details concerning the various elements of production with a photograph of the four protagonists: Michael Pierce, John Golley, Bill Gunston, and Freddie Hurrell to the front cover viewing the finished product.
