Quarter red morocco git with printed cloth-covered boards, folio, unpaginated, illustrated with 23 colotypes of engravings by Jean Duvet from the 1561de Tournes Book of Revelation. One of 735 numbered copies (this copy out of series) printed by L. van Leer & Co. Ltd in Amsterdam on specially made Balston paper and bound by Zaehnsdorf. The 30 page paperbound translation into French by Louis Segond is loosely inserted. Minor extremity wear and faded spine, else a clean, very good copy.

Original gilt lettered dark red crushed morocco backed printed cloth covered boards, some minor fading to leather, t.e.g. No. 636 of a Limited Edition of 735 Copies. Jean Duvet (1485 after 1562) was a French Renaissance goldsmith and engraver, now best known for his engravings. He was the first significant French printmaker. He produced about seventy-three known plates, that convey a highly personal style, often compared to that of William Blake, with very crowded compositions, a certain naive quality, and intense religious feeling. A nicely produced facsimile of the 1561 edition, 22 chapters of the Book of Revelation illustrated with 23 of Duvet's remarkable engravings, reproduced by collotype and printed on Atlas mould-made paper. With a publisher's advertisementâ "one folio sheet folded to make four pages, reproducing one image and one page of textâ "laid in; the publisher's price was $46.25, by our calculations roughly $450 in 2023.
