Pages have mild tanning and foxing throughout, moderate at end-papers, paste-downs and text-block edges. Damp staining to the top edge of the first few pages. Plates are bright and clear. Some occasional mild cracking to gutters throughout, binding remains reasonably firm. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Cloth has minor damp and dust stains. Mild crushing to spine ends. Book has a slight forward lean. Gilt lettering is bright and clear. Boards are bowed.

Hardcover. Etat : Very good. First Edition. This blue cloth covered book is slightly cocked and although the cover is very slightly worn at the edges, there is no damage or fraying. The top edge is dust stained. On the front FEP there is a short birthday inscription to a previous owner. As well as some B/W photographic illustrations there are also the boats sail plan, cabin and deck plans and a diagram of her lines. Both front and back FEP's and paste down papers have a map of her Westward passage. There is an appendix full of advice for single handers. 180pp. The author describes in great detail his adventures on his boat the 'Temptress' sailing her single handedly from England to Gibraltar and eventually New York.

First edition of English yachtsman Edward C. Allcardâ s detailed account of his second solo trip across the Atlantic aboard the yawl Temptress. Octavo, original cloth, cartographic endpapers, frontispiece, illustrated. From the library of James Stephen â Steveâ Fossett with his bookplate to the pastedown. American businessman and record-setting aviator Steve Fossett became the first person to fly solo nonstop around the world in 2002 in his 10-story high balloon Spirit of Freedom. He completed the 2002 trip in 13 days, 8 hours, and 33 minutes and set records for both the Longest Distance Flown Solo in a Balloon and Fastest Balloon Flight Around the World. Fosset was also one of sailingâ s most prolific distance record holders set the Absolute World Speed Record for airships with a Zeppelin NT in 2004. He received numerous awards and honors throughout his career including aviationâ s highest award, the Gold Medal of the Fà dà ration Aà ronautique Internationale (FAI), which he was awarded in 2002. Fossett disappeared on September 3, 2007 while flying a light aircraft over the Great Basin Desert, between Nevada and California.ÂGood in a good dust jacket. Jacket design by Jean Main.
