The German classical scholar and bibliographer Johann Albert Fabricius (1668-1736) produced numerous works of great importance to biblical scholarship, probably none more so than hisBibliotheca Latina and Bibliotheca Graeca. However, his writings on New Testament apocrypha and Old Testament pseudepigraphica were also enormously influential: these were published asCodex apocryphus Novi Testamenti(1703) andCodex pseudepigraphus Veteris Testamenti(1713). A second part of the latter work appeared ten years later, asCodicis pseudepigraphi Veteris Testamenti Volumen alterum accedit Josephi veteris Christiani auctoria Hypomnesticon(1723).

Fabricius is credited with 128 books, but very many of them were only books which he had edited. One of the most famed and laborious of these is the Bibliotheca Latina (1697). The divisions of the compilation are -- the writers to the time of Tiberius; then to the time of the Antonines; and thirdly, to the decay of the Latin language; a fourth gives fragments from old authors, and chapters on early Christian literature.
