Hardcover. Etat : Good. 1st Edition. 283pp, bibliography, index, illustrated with 8 full-page plates, mostly historical photographs, green buckram with gilt titles at cover and spine, moderate general wear and soiling, gilt faded at spine, contents very bright and clean. Signed, dated, and numbered by author at copyright page, and inscribed / signed again by author at front fly to a Dr. Henry H. Sweets, July 21, 1941, and by a Dr. Robert Stuart Sanders to a Maurice Derby Leach, June 28, 1968; also includes two typed letters signed by the author, both to Rev. Robert Stuart Sanders, Versailles, KY, dated May 29, 1946, and July 4, 1947, respectively. Rev. Sanders authored several books including Presbyterianism In Paris And Bourbon County Kentucky 1786-1961 , and histories of several churches. In one of the letters, the present author wonders about Sanders' progress on his history of the Lexington-Ebenezer Presbytery, which would appear in 1954 as An Historical Sketch Of Ebenezer Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church Jessamine County, Kentucky. The present title includes Danville and Boyle County, Centre College, Dr. Ephraim McDowell, and genealogy of some of the earliest settlers. From the Foreword, "Much yet exists of our pioneer tradition, but it is rapidly disappearing into the mists of the past. Some descendants of those first families remain, but most of them are ignorant of the things that were. So our apology for the book is that they should be preserved, and that the writer seems the only one willing to undertake the work." See Coleman's Kentucky History #2599. Unique. Inscribed by Author(s).
