Livre Edition originale
Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good. 1st Edition. Faulks, Sebastian, writing as Ian Fleming. Devil may care: a James Bond novel. First edition. London: Penguin, 007, 2008. Hardback, VG+ in unclipped dustjacket, with very minor shelfwear and remains of a circular sticky label on the front. Black boards with silver lettering to spine. Red endpapers decorated with poppies. 295pp., contents clean and bright. This is a faithful, canny recreation of 1967, with Bond rather bemused by the King's Road hippies: there is no arch, knowing hindsight, hard though it must have been to resist. Faulks knows his time and his Cold War and the perfumed hypocrisies of the Near East. The pages turn over increasingly quickly. He evokes scenes with deft skill: recreates a time and a world with great brio, and manages it with the block script of Fleming's journalistic nature rather than his own more cursive style. The suits, the planes, the coffee, the cigarettes: a worsted world is right back with us, and there is sensory delight (The Guardian). RightWayUp Books aims to provide accurate and detailed descriptions. All images are of the actual book for sale - no stock images are ever used. Thank you for looking at this listing.

(Dustwrapper very slightly rubbed and creased at the edges.). A very good copy. ¶¶¶First edition. After Fleming's death in 1964, the James Bond series of novels was continued by a number of writers, beginning with Kingsley Amis' Colonel Sun, which was published in 1968 under the pseudonym 'Robert Markham'. Devil May Care was written by Sebastian Faulks as Ian Fleming to celebrate the centenary of the latter's birth on 28 May 1908, and is set in 1967, shortly after The Man with the Golden Gun, the last of Fleming's Bond novels. Devil May Care 'is a masterful continuation of the James Bond legacy -- an electrifying new chapter in the life of the most iconic spy of literature and film. Picking up where Fleming left off, Sebastian Faulks takes Bond back to the height of the Cold War in a story of almost unbearable pace and tension. Devil May Care not only captures the very essence of Fleming's original novels but also shows Bond facing dangers with a powerful relevance to our own times' (dustwrapper blurb). It was one of the fastest-selling bestsellers published by Penguin and won the British Book Awards Popular Fiction Award for 2009. ¶¶¶FURTHER INFORMATION: please contact us for further information about this item and prices for shipping.

First edition of this James Bond continuation novel. Octavo, original boards, pictorial endpapers. Fine in a near fine dust jacket with light shelfwear. "The story centers on Bond's investigation into Dr Julius Gorner, a megalomaniac chemist with a deep-seated hatred of England. Faulks wrote the book in the style of Fleming, and the novel carried the credit "Sebastian Faulks writing as Ian Fleming"; he also took the same timeframe as Fleming, setting the novel in 1967, following the events in Fleming's last novel The Man with the Golden Gun. He ignored the influences of the other Bond continuation authors and the films, producing a characterization of Bond in the style of Fleming's.
