Hardcover. 1st Edition. 12mo. 19cm, 4 Volumes bound in Two, 179, 198,[11], & 200, 173,[10]pp., publisher ads., & ads on the rear endpapers, with 2 engraved frontis, 4 engraved half-title-pages, 8 plate engravings, original diamond grain brown cloth, elaborated blind stamped decorations and borders, gilt spine titles & illustrations, despite some foxing on the preliminaries plates in both volumes very good to fine set of the First Edition more commonly found in poor condition ~ Van Winkle, p.58-66 - "It should be remembered that these Peterson editions were not authorized by Herbert, who protested vigorously against their pubicationaand advised against thier purchase. ". Four books of American hunting by English novelist and sports writer, Henry William Herbert (1807-1858). They contain much practical hunting information and as Frank Forester, Herbert was credited with creating a great American interest in field sports. The illustrations are by Felix Darley and the author.
