Etat : Near fine. copper plate engraving, sheet measures 33 x 39 cms, two vertical creases, light weight paper, some age darkening but overall very clean, a birds eye view with fine detail, the print shows a view of Copenhagen, Denmark under siege by Swedish forces in 1659. It includes views of troop locations, fortifications and ships both approaching and in the harbour. There is also a key in the top right which identifies various important aspects shown on the map. This is an original antique map. We do not sell reproductions or facsimiles.

23 x 31cm, Gerahmt (Blattgold) in Passepartout., Blatt knapp beschnitten Vom Künstler links unten in der Platte signiert: «G. Valck ex. - cum Privilegio».Gerard Valck, niederl. Maler, Kupferstecher, Kartograph, Kunsthändler (1651- ca. 1726), ursprünglich Silberschmid, Schüler u. Geschäftspartern von Abraham Blooteling, mit dem er 1672 nach London reisste. Valcks 67 Radierungen basierten meistens auf Zeichungen oder Gemälden von anderen Künstlern wie z. B. Peter Lely, Gérard de Lairesse und Philipp Tidemann. Die Blätter wurden oft von Valck selbst publiziert. Ausserdem publiziert er Landkarten, Atalanten und Globen. 1600 gr. Schlagworte: Grafik - vor 1800.

The title cartouche in the lower left depicts a Roman soldier with accompanying eagle, and a barbarian king with a lion. A scale with units from various nationalities adorns the upper left corner., Size : 487x867 (mm), 19.17x34.13 (Inches), Original Hand Coloring Very Good; due to oxidation of some of the green pigments, the map is backed on acid-free tissue paper for long term preservation.

Half title, title, [4], 252, frontis, second title, 253- 469 pp. First edition in French of Le Brun's travels to Russia, Persia, India and Java, copiously illustrated with flora, fauna, native studies, costumes, antiquities and views. Also included are two particularly wide folding panoramas, one of Moscow and a second of Isfahan. In total, there are 78 single page plates, 20 double fold plates, 7 single fold plates, two double paged maps, 34 double paged plates, and 46 illustrations on text pages, these taking up a third or more of the page. Following an initial voyage to the Levant, "In 1701, Le Bruyn started on the second of his journeys taking a ship to the country of the Samoyeds, and then proceeding to Moscow. Traveling by way of Asia Minor, he arrived in Persia where he remained for the years 1704-05. Leaving Persia he proceeded [by ship] to India [stopping at Cochin], Ceylon and the East Indies [i.e. Batavia]. He returned by much the same route, residing in Persia between 1706 and 1707 and describing the ruins of Persepolis and Pasargades" Howgego B177.
