Hardcover. Etat : Very Good-. PhotoPlay Edition. A light romance about a visitor with superhuman powers from Mars. Based on a popular play by Ganthony and novelized by Lurgan. Play was first produced in 1899 and published in 1900. The first edition in novel form came out in 1912. This is the undated photoplay edition. It comes with 11 photographs of the cinematograph version of the play. This copy is VG-, it has a damp stain on back panel, which only shows up on the edges of the photographic plates internally. Otherwise mostly clean internally. Red boards with flowery gilt. An uncommon book. Provenance - From the Gary Munson Collection ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall.

An 8-page "souvenir" booklet for Britain's first feature length SF film, including numerous stills from the 1913 film and a one-page synopsis. The film, based on a popular play by Richard Ganthony about a visitor with superhuman powers from Mars, first performed in 1899, was released in 1913. A novelization of Ganthony's play by Mabel Winifred Knowles writing as "Lester Lurgan" was published by Greening in 1912. Locke, Voyages in Space (2011) V447. Rear wrapper a trifle dusty, else a nearly fine copy. Rare. The Currey-Ordway-Currey copy; we know of no others. (#66890).
