Printed Wrapper. Etat : Very Good +, Clean Condition. Gardner, James (illustrateur). First Edition. Number 21 of the Puffin Picture Books. Profusely illustrated with original lithographs printed by W S Cowell of Ipswich. There are tiny (I mean 'tiny' -3 mm)) chips to the bottom front and rear corner but this is a nice, clean copy of one of the sought-after titles in the series. Superb illustrations with the text based on The Air Ministry official account from 1940 and surprisingly informative. Payment by credit card through ABE. Paypal accepted.

Soft cover. Etat : Fair. James Gardner (illustrateur). Light soiling shows on front cover with 8 cm x 1 cm loss to top corner. Stapled spine keep the text block firm but covers detached; splitting around the staples and 1 cm split at top of spine; a 5 mm closed tear on top front edge and diagonal creasing across lower front corners. Internally no faults.

Minor edgewear to covers, slight split at spine, at the top with short, closed tear, bright throughout with no inscriptions or blemishes.This is a very good, solid copy of this very scarce title from the war years. Garnett [1892-1981] was a member of the Bloomsbury Group and already an established author by the time he came to write this title for Noel Carrington's Puffin Picture Book series. The illustrator, Gardner was a very distinguished designer of museums and exhibitions. He illustrated three titles for the Puffin series.
