Grey Cloth Hardback. Etat : Very Good Plus. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good Plus. Archie MacAlister (illustrateur). First Edition Limited to 1000 Copies. 1988. First edition limited to 1000 copies of which this is copy No. 215. 30pp. including 9 full-page colour illustrations by Archie MacAlister. George Campbell Hay (1915-1984) was a Scottish Symbolist poet and translator, who wrote in Scottish Gaelic, Scots and English. He also wrote poetry in French, Italian and Norwegian, and translated poetry from many languages into Gaelic. This poem was conceived one night at the herring fishing at Tarbet when he noticed the name of a passing motor-skiff from Minard, farther up Loch Fyne. The accompanying paintings by Archie MacAlister do not illustrate particular moments of action in the poem, rather he paints boats as he saw them later. There is an introduction by Angus Martin. The book is bound in the original grey cloth covered boards with silver titling on the spine and bottom corner of the front board. The case of the book is in excellent condition with fading along about 1" of the front edge and 3/2" of the top edge of the front board. The contents are tight and clean and the page preceeding the half-title has been flat signed and dated (29.ix/88) by Archie MacAlister. The reverse of this page has an inscription for Christmas 1989 and below this is a name, place and date (1989) written in a different hand. The wrapper is in an easily removed clear plastic protective cover, probably as issued. SIGNED By the Artist.
