Hardbound. Blue portfolio case with ties. Many sheets of colored illustrations present. An incomplete set, but most useful nonetheless. Part 1 (Moyen Age): text missing, lacks plates 4,5,11 and 12 out of 12. Part 2 (Renaissance): Includes plates 1,2,3,5 out of 12, but no text. Part 3 (1574-1643): complete, outer wraps broken at spine. Part 4 (1643-1715):all text, all plates present. Part 5 (1715-1774): all text, all plates present. Part 6 (1774-1789): complete. Part 7 (1792-1799): complete. Part 8 (1799-1815): complete. Part 9 (1815-1830): complete. Part 10 (1852-1870): complete. A few plates have very minor dampstaining, as does the silk covered portfolio. If you need a few of these plates to complete your set, or simply can live withought the bulk of the first two parts, then this set will suit your needs perfectly. Good-, some chipping or minor losses to many sheets as is typical.

Fascinating work containing the last 4 fascicules of a series of 10, dedicated to the history of French feminine costume from the Middle-Ages to the end of the Second Empire. This work describes in detail and in vivid color, the exquisite French feminine fashion from 1792 to 1870. Each fascicule is complete in itself and contains 8 pages of text and 12 color pochoir plates. Some age wear on wrappers, with most covers being detached, but present. Age-toning and moderate chipping along edges. Minor creasing, age-toning and closed tears along paper margin. The last 2 plates of the ninth fascicule are chipped along edges (not affecting pochoir illustrations). Text in French. Wrappers in overall fair to good-, interior in good to good+ condition.

Corners worn. One plate missing (see above). Minor tears and creasing to page edges and some larger tears to very few pages, not affecting text or plates. (Exception: Title page of whole book, where the tear affects the plate). Minor browning to pages. In English. Good- condition.

Portfolio. Etat : Good +. This is an exlibrary copy, plates stamped on back but no 'show through' on the heavy paper. Ten folders with ten plates and brief text in each. The plates are in very good condition; the folders are somewhat tattered around the edges and each is split at the fold. The original box is replaced by a black library buckram portfolio case; the portfolio is moderately worn with tears at the spine ends.

Set in a large paper folder with a nice color illustration on the front cover along with a small illustration on the back cover.Folder has chipping to the edges and average light wear and splitting at the spine. Some mends using archival tape. The plates are in fine condition. Beautiful. Book.
