Pages remain clear with minimal tanning and foxing, mild to end-papers and text-block edges. Previous owner's inscription to front free end-paper. Binding remains firm. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Mild crushing to spine ends. Book has a slight forward lean. Gilt lettering is darkened. Cloth has minor damp and dust stains.

An abridged edition of Burnet's celebrated history of the Reformation, written in answer to Nicholas Sanders' 'De Origine et Progressu Schismatio Anglicani Libri Tres' which had attacked the English reformation as nothing more than a political move by a corrupt King. The book earned Burnet much praise. 700 grams.

Seems to be original covers - a sort of plastic sheathing over cloth, plastic scuffed and faded, bubbling, large pieces peeled out of three spines (interesting sneak peek of the spine cover paper, which is upside down from the book binding!). Pages rough cut, very good, light foxing - more heavy on the first few pages and on illustrations and frontises. Bindings tight, multiple black and white plates. NOT ex-library.
