No. 63 of 100 Copies. 18 wood engraved plates & 10 hand-coloured etched plates of trout flies. Vol. II. 4to London: Vinton & Co. Ltd. No. 12 of 100 Copies. With 100 flies in 12 recessed mounts. [Cat. 2018] P 170262 bkz. Both volumes beautifully rebound by Bayntun Binders of Bath, England in matching dark green morocco, raised bands, gilt spine lettering & decorations, gilt rule on inside turn-ins, marbled endpapers and top edges gilt. Vol. I has some scattered foxing on the hand-colored engraved plates. In Vol. II, the 100 flies, over 120 years old, are in excellent condition, and free of moths. Of the 100 flies, 28 have been refastened from their wire mounts by having the hooks inserted into the recessed mounts. There is some glue residue on the edges of some of the mounts. The mounts themselves have minimal foxing, which is unusual for the time of the binding. Bayntun Binders in Bath is one of the best book binders in Great Britain, and theses bindings are exceptional. Considering the 120 year age of the books, the volumes are in Very Good condition. Because the two volumes came from different original copies, the price is reduced. Bindings Very Fine, interiors Very Good. $3750.
