Revised and edited by Archibald Cary Coolidge and W. Harold Claflin. Dark blue cloth-bound hardcover has gilt spine lettering. Spine and front cover have decoration of a flaming torch with crossed sword and feather and central wreath; spine decoration is gilt. Spine ends bumped and rubbed; head of spine a bit frayed. Corners lightly rubbed. Top edges gilt. A few small stains on covers. Front endpaper has a research foundation stamp dated 1954, and over-stamped "cancelled". Rear free endpaper has stamped owner's name and date of 1971. Binding cracked near front, in center, and at rear. Webbing visible in front crack. Brown & white frontispiece has tissue guard with red descriptive lettering. Five other plates, and seven text maps. Interior pages are clean and unmarked. Binding still firm, despite cracks. 534 pages. No dust jacket.

The frontis. shows a typical Flagg-designed home, seen from the roadside, with the Hudson River in the distance. Loosely inserted with this copy is a diminutive, promotional trade card, part of Collier's magazine promotion for mass marketed house plans (some 1,200 of them were said to have been sold to the public), reading "THE MODERN HOME IS BASED ON THAT ANCIENT VIRTUE - THRIFT - WEEKEND HOUSE, COURTESY OF COLLIER'S. EDWARD STONE - ARCHITECT." Stone had created designs for an eight room dwelling in the Modernist Style. First Edition. A Very Good copy.
