Soft cover. Etat : Fair. 1st Edition. First edition first appearance of this collection of three novellas, and five short stories. Collected are the following: novellas - Brett Halliday A Man of Violence, Richard O'Brien The Comic Books Murder, Edward D. Hoch A Country Like the Sun. The short stories are: Thomas N. Scortia Fall Out One, A.F. Oreschnick Breaking into Big Time, Edwin Schorb The Code of the Blue Commune, Harbert Harris Trial By Fury, Jerry Jacobson Cutback. There are initials on the table of contents page next to the Mike Shayne story, then again above the story and on the front and back cover. ( RAB possibly?) I can't make them out. They could be a signature by the house author at that time or they could be original owner of the magazine. Rubbing to the front cover. In fair condition.

Soft cover. Etat : Very Good. 1st Edition. Very Good. See scans and description. New York: Renown Publications, Inc., 1972. The March, 1972 issue of Mike Shayne Mystery Magazine, that being Volume 30, Number 4. 12mo, illustrated perfect-bound wraps, 128 pp. Very Good, with small "x" on front cover (scan); covers are moderately rubbed in places; white-background rear cover shows some soil; the inevitable age-toning to the newsprint-paper interior pages is of the standard degree, for this inexpensively-produced series (see all scans). Superior spine. Firmly bound, and very readable, should you choose to do that; also collectible, in several categories. Lead story, "A Man of Violence", is by Brett Halliday, the creator of the great fictional detective after which this series is named. Other contributors include Richard O'Brien; Edward D. Hoch; Thomas N. Scortia; A.F. Oreschnick; Edwin Schorb; Herbert Harris; and Jerry Jacobson. See scan of contents for story list. L202.

Several pages are dog-eared, there is highlighting on page XIV, and an ink mark on p. 209. "In the past, we have tended to see stars as cogs in a mass entertainment industry selling desires and ideologies. But since the 1970s, new approaches have explored the active role of the star in producing meanings, pleasures and identities for a diversity of audiences. Drawn from film history, sociology, textual analysis, audience research, psychoanalysis and cultural politics, the[se] essays raise important questions for the politics of representation, the impact of stars on society and the cultural limitations and possibilities of stars". Includes Karen Alexander, Andrew Britton, Richard Decordova, Richard Dyer, Charles Eckert, Jane Marie Gaines, Behroze Gandhy, Christine Gledhill, Miriam Hansen, Thomas Harris, Charlotte Cornelia Herzog, Barry King, David Lusted, Kobena Mercer, Michel Mourlet, Tessa Perkins, Jackie Stacey, Janet Staiger, Rosie Thomas, John O.
