Holocaust-era adaptation of the story, the narrative of the child Jacob, a Chatufim (kidnapped) , who does not bend or break under the weight of punishment for not converting to Christianity in Tsarist Russia as a young boy, has to serve as a soldier in the Tsar's army, is finally discharged in middle age, returns to Judaism, finds a living as a horse trader, and eventually emigrates to Jerusalem, becoming one of the earliest Zionists to settle there.
