Etat : Very Good. First Edition. Hardback. 4to. XVI, 343 Many b/w illustrations. Colour frontis. Original publisher's red cloth lettered gilt on spine and on front cover. Some slight mottling to front board at edge else sound very good with clean text. The book is dedicated in print to Edward VII. This copy was owned by his son George V and passed on to his son Edward VIII (later the Duke of Windsor) and passed on by Edward VIII ('David') to his brother Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester (1900-1974) the third son of King George V and Queen Mary. With the royal book plates of Edward VIII (done in 1904 by Barrett when he was the Prince of Wales) and Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester. Written on the half-title in the hand of George V is 'For Dear David from his affectionate Papa, G Xmas 1904' and in the hand of Edward VIII 'Passed on to Harry- March 1924, David'.
