Mild tanning to board edges and spine, which has mild crushing to ends. Moderate water stains to surfaces. Unclipped jacket has moderate edgewear with chips, tears, and creasing. Mild foxing to surfaces. Heavy sunning to spine. Light rubbing and marking all over.

Book based on the career of the pioneer lawman Isiah Lees, who joined the San Francisco police department in 1853 and served for 50 years, at a time when not only was San Francisco a young rapidly growing city due to the Gold Rush, but also when police methods were just beginning to be developed. Although Lees career was one of significant accomplishments, Holdredge in this book alleges that he was a notorious blackmailer - but without providing any proof. 244 pp. Near fine in black cloth with gilt lettering on spine, no dust jacket.
