A thin vertical vestige of a card folder to the front fly with a library stamp, second library stamp to the title page with five numerals stamped to the bottom edge, small glue stains to verso of the front board, very small DDS numbers to the foot of the spine with the same erased numbers in pencil to the verso of the title page. No other library markings detected. Both hinges have been re-enforced with tape. The interior is quite clean with the occasional small spot, bit of foxing or a finger smudge to show. Red cloth boards are bumped and rubbed to extremities with small areas of loss to the head and tail. Cloth on the rear board is split along the spine but firmly attached. Bright gilt titles to spine and front board. Bit of sunning to show. The interior is remarkably clean for its age. The Map of Eastern Labrador folding map, 22.5? x 21?, showing the route of Mrs. Hubbard is present to the pocket at the rear of the book and in Very Good plus condition. Some tape repairs to folds. Very scarce volume and map of the Canadian edition printed in the UK at the Edinburgh Press.

Very scarce -last seen at auction in 1975The first edition of this account of Mina Hubbard's exploration of the Nauscapee and George Rivers; she was the first to accurately map the river system in 1905. Mina Hubbard was the first white woman to travel and explore the backcountry of Labrador. She was Leonidas Hubbard's wife, who was famous for his misfortunate expedition to Labrador in 1903.From the library of Eric Kenneth Prentice Back. Kenn Back was a British meteorologist with the British Antarctic survey for many years. He spent eight winters in the Antarctic and is a descendent of Captain George Back. In addition, he served as base commander at Halley, Faraday and Rothera stations. His library collection was built over decades and highlights his love of polar exploration. In the original publisher's red cloth binding, with titles stamped in gilt to front board and spine. Externally very smart with minor shelfwear only and slight bumping to head and tail of spine. Kenn Back's bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. With fifty illustrations. Very Good Indeed. book.
