Hardcover. Etat : Poor. Illustration by Herman Faber. Two of the twelve lithographic prints missing, page 69: The Circus and page 109: Christmas Eve. This embossed green cloth volume is likely the second edition. Corners are worn through and the spine is torn top and bottom. The binding is broken and the pages are loose. The endpapers have been removed front and back. The pages are all ruffled, some have some spots, most are clean and unmarked. The prints are bright and colorful.

CONDITION: Good Minus; charming 1873 birthday inscription on interior flyleaf, spine bright and front cover good, extremities bumped and worn, loosening and separating on interior pages so that signatures are uneven, evidence of moisture damage from pp. 60 to 80, affecting plates, especially. margins; wrinkles and page soil on early and late pages, still most pages flat and clean. Juvenile hardback. Many, many story rhymes, reminiscent of nursery rhymes, but gentler, with topics of interest to children, and quite well done. The illustrations are by a German American artist primarily known for medical illustration and his "Death of Lincoln" There must be an interesting story behind this book.
