His fictional character Inspector Appleby is one of the best-known in the genre. "From London Far" is not an Appleby novel, but it is, all the same, an excellent mystery, written in Innes's inimitable literary style. An Innes novel is always well-written, and frequently abounds in literary and artistic allusions.
