unbound. 1 page, 9.75 x 7.25 inches, personal letterhead, Bethesda, Maryland, October 11, 1985, declining to send a signed photograph, in part: "Thank you for the nice letter of recent date and its request for an autographed photo wearing my Congressional Medal of Honor.My original medal of honor has been donated, by me, to the Navy Museum.where it is on display with other artifax [sic]. It has been a long time, in years, since I was photographed, with the medal.On a rare occasion I have worn an ersatz medal for a civic or patriotic meeting. Now, as I approach my ninety-fifth year, I only 'relive' the reasons for the honor in my memories. I am sorry, therefore, I cannot send you a photograph, but I am pleased to sign this letter." Horizontal folds; near fine. American-Jewish Naval officer during World War I and Medal of Honor recipient. From 1937 - 1947 he served in Congress as a member of the House of Representatives from California. On Oct. 18, 1918, Izac was captured by a German U-Boat soon after his ship was torpedoed. During confinement he was able to gather much information on German naval strategy and risked his life to escape so that he could pass the information on to the allies. He was one of only six Jewish Medal of Honor recipients during World War I.
