OCLC 857860886 Breton Bay is on the Chesapeake Bay just off the Potomac River in St. Mary's County in southern Maryland. It is just east of St. Clement s Island where in March, 1634, travel-weary colonists aboard the Ark and Dove, made Maryland s first European landfall. Leonardtown, the county seat, is located at the north end of Breton Bay. This survey was conducted to chart the Bay and any changes that had taken place since its dredging around 1890. The large fold-out map of the Bay measures 27 inches by 30.5 inches. There is a small inset map at lower right depicting the Bay's placement in a larger context. Text in very good condition, map complete and clean, a few short closed tears at folds.
