Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" Tall (tall thin). Text of the 1887 Kabuki adaptation of the Noh play (generally transliterated as 'Momijigari Kuse', and rendered in English as 'Autumn Leaves Viewing' or 'The Maple Viewing'), written in the Latin alphabet (romaji) transcription; followed by 2 more sections: 'Hagoromo Kiri' and 'Turukame Kiri'. Each section has own diagrams (indicating both costuming and traditional stage blocking); with few blank leaves at rear. In total 25 b/w illustrations. [24] pages (unpaginated), bound in green patterned cloth, with an upper cover gilt paper label and brown silk ties at spine. Patterned Front Endpaper. Unknown transcriber's holograph; date is conjectural (no date indicated in book; most probably post-WWII). Unusual and rare transcript, in a traditional Japanese format. A Very Good copy with Slight rubbing and browning to the edges of the cloth and slight internal browning to the edges. A previous owner's pencil annotations throughout (generally unaffecting text).
