Fifty-eight pages, complete. Black-and-white illustrations, complete. Included among the illustrations is a tipped-in frontispiece portrait, which is likely of Robert Louis Stevenson when he was a child. Howell, Nov. 25, 1940." Pages are very clean and intact except for tape residue on front pastedown and some offsetting at the fore-edge of the pages in the very front and very back. The rest of the pages have no offsetting. Covers are clean and intact overall except for slight darkening on the spine, browning to the paper portions of the boards, a few tiny splits at head and tail of spine, and some corner and edge wear. A Very Good copy. An endearing and interesting look at the early life of the prominent Scottish author, Robert Louis Stevenson. Stevenson's baby records and documentation of his life from infancy into his early childhood are reprinted in facsimile and also transcribed in the latter half of the book. These records were kept by Stevenson's mother, Margaret Isabella (Balfour) Stevenson. Excerpt from Katharine D. Osbourne's Note to the Reader: "This Baby Record was meant by the young mother who wrote it, as all such Records are, to keep, for memory's sake, an account of the first years of her adored child. A few of the notes were added by her in later years. What gives this Records extraordinary value, what sets it apart from countless others, undertaken in the same sweet cause, is that it proved to be the first chapter of the biography of one of the best-loved men who ever lived ." Back colophon: "Five hundred copies printed of which this is No. 456.". Signed By Publisher.
