This history of the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre at Stratford was published 75 years after the opening of the initial theatre, destroyed by fire in 1926. As well as tracing the history of the theatre from 1879 the book briefly examines the playwright and each of the annual Shakespearian festivals in detail. Inevitable these mention many of the most famous names in the dramatic arts. An excellent selection of 25 photographs in gray tonings cover personalities, buildings and interiors, stage settings and casts. 295 pages including 4 appendices and index. Neatly inked name and dealer stamp on FFEP. Minor foxing to page edges, text block otherwise excellent. Hard covers VG+, gilt titles to spine. DJ has one small tape repaired tear, few nicks and chips.
