Levin Kipnis (1894-1990) was an Israeli children's author and poet who wrote mainly in Hebrew and Yiddish. He won the Israel prize for children's literature in 1978. Reading copy. Spine cover cracked with the bottom part of the spine cover missing, boards rubbed, last blank page in detached, several pages are loose, former owner's name inside.

Born in Ushomir, Volhynia, he went to Erez Israel in 1913, studied at the Bezalel School of Arts, and taught in a kindergarten. After a period of study in Germany in 1923 he joined the staff of the Lewinsky Teachers' Seminary in Tel Aviv. [He] also wrote children's stories in Yiddish and.edited the journals for kindergarten teachers, Gannenu and Hedha-Gan. In 1978 he was the recipient of the Israel Prize for children's literature. A collection of essays examining the influence of Kipnis on Hebrew children's literature was published under Iyyunim bi-Y? Irat Levin Kipnis in 1982." Chagaynu (meaning Our Holidays) is a beautiful picture book drawn by Zeev Raban of the Bezalel Art School in Jerusalem. The book includes 14 plates featuring gorgeous color illustrations by Raban, all showing Jewish holidays throughout the year. Each illustration includes with it a poem by Israeli children's author and poet Levin Kipnis ("Avi-Shai"). Each color plate is protect by tissue guards. Text in Hebrew. Raban, the artist, is regarded as a leading member of the Bezalel school art style, in which artists portrayed both Biblical and Zionist themes in a style influenced by the European Jugendstil (similar to Art Nouveau) and by traditional Persian and Syrian styles. Otto Geismar (1873-1957) was an art teacher in a school of the Jewish community of Berlin between 1904 and 1936. In 1930 he was sent by the Jewish community to Eretz Israel, then ruled by the British, and spent a few months there. In 1930 he immigrated with his wife to Brazil and after World War II the moved to England.
