Soft cover. Etat : Very Good. Great Association copy: Signed and inscribed by one composer to another, John La Montaine to Frederick Werle. You can see the inscription on the front cover ('For old and good friend Fred Werle from John La Montaine with admiration and best wishes') . This is a 53 page work of music, categorized on his Wikipedia page as a concertante. Once listed, this work will be unique for being the Only signed copy for sale on the Internet, and unique again for being the Only copy signed Or unsigned for sale on the Internet. It is in very solid condition. It has a few nicks on the front. The interior of the work looks pretty close to perfect. I don't see any soiling. I don't see any creasing. There are no markings. No attachments. And with the exception of the author's signed inscription, no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. Thank you Frederick Werle. The book is also very solidly bound, no binding issues. Birds of Paradise was written in 1964. 'John Maynard La Montaine, also later LaMontaine, was an American pianist and composer, born in Oak Park, Illinois, who won the 1959 Pulitzer Prize for Music for his Piano Concerto No. 1 "In Time of War" (1958), which was premiered by Jorge Bolet. His teachers included Howard Hanson, Bernard Rogers, and Nadia Boulanger. His works have been performed by Jessye Norman and Jorge Bolet. In honor of the American Bicentennial celebration in 1976, he was commissioned to create a choral work for the Penn State Institute for Arts and Humanistic Studies. The opera, entitled Be Glad Then America, was performed by the University Choirs, under the direction of Sarah Caldwell.' 'Frederick Werle was a composer and former dean of the Mannes College of Music. Mr. Werle studied composition with Nadia Boulanger in Paris, with Rosario Scalero in Italy and at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia. He also had degrees from the Cincinnati Conservatory and the Eastman School of Music in Rochester. He taught theory and composition at Mannes and was dean from 1972 to 1976. He also was director of the extension division from 1973 to 1976 and created the department's diploma program. Among his published works are a Toccata and a Sonata Brevis for piano and many pedagogical works for young musicians.'. Inscribed by Author(s).
