Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. G.H. Ford (illustrateur). Reprint. This classic piece of humorous travelogue - à la "Three Men in a Boat" - about three English guys roughing it in the wilds of Norway, huntin', shootin' and fishin' their way through a long summer, was first published in the UK by Longmans in 1882. What we have here is an undated reprint in the Alta Edition series from Porter & Coates. The publisher changed its name in 1895, so this edition dates between 1883 and 1895. Several things are absent from this edition. The authors' names for one. No credit given anywhere here to Lees and Clutterbuck. Also missing are the full page illustrations from the Longmans edition - although there are plenty of small wood engravings by G.H. Ford, based on original sketches by the authors. I also see no sign of the map promised on the title page. This is a very good copy, tight and square and clean. The covers show some slight wear, there is a previous owner's label on front pastedown and a chip from the edge of the front endpaper. A couple of pages towards the end have small creased tears to the bottom margin. Edges are a little browned. Ten pages of publisher's catalog bring up the rear. A nice solid copy of a scarce edition. JS.
