He regrets that 'for many a long year' he has 'done no general reviewing outside the publisher's office. There the flood of MSS. that poured in furnished effectual occupation. The thickness of the trees in one's own spinney precluded much survey of the whole wood.' The recipient is best known for her 'Hugh Collier' series of detective novels.
