Hardcover, approx 4 1/4 x 7 inches, full feathered tan leather, decorative gilt edges (of boards) and lettering on red spine label, 263 pp, illustrated with 3 plates by Ansell (Charles? ) and engraved by Skelton (William? ) . Contents pages from Volume I, insterad of those for this volume, bound in (illiterate help? ) . Moderately scuffed, boards just barely attached, corners bumped with bit of cardboard exposed there and at a few points along edges, closed crack along spine label, with a few approx 1/4 inch chips at head and foot. Internally, approx 1 inch deep light tan stain along upper margins and along lower half of front endpapers, which disappears by around page 3; one inch deep tan stain along margins of rear endpapers; prev owner's sgn cut out from title page (two approx 1/2 by 1 inch cuts; text unaffected) ; paper lightly age yelllowed, with occasional spot of foxing, mainly on and adjacent to plates; plates have aprox 1/8th inch deep tanning along edges; upper corner of 2 leaves chipped off (text unaffected) , 3 or 4 dogears, apparently from bumps, o/w tight, clean, unmarked and possibly never read. Nice early edition. Literature; picaresque novel.
