Livre Edition originale
Soft cover. Etat : Very Good. 1st Edition. Lot of the following 6 titles, part of a series of field reports on desegregation in the South : Tallahassee, Florida: The Tallahassee Bus Protest; Mansfield, Texas: a Report of the Crisis Situation Resulting from Efforts to Desegregate the School System; Beaumont, Texas: College Desegregation Without Popular Support; Clinton, Tennessee: A Tentative Description and Analysis of the School Desegregation Crisis; Sturgis, Kentucky: A Tentative Description and Analysis of the School Desegregation Crisis; Tuskegee, Alabama: Voting Rights and Economic Pressure. These reports, published in the immediate aftermath of the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education ruling outlawing the racial segregation of schools, were timely documents of the struggle across the South to enforce and adapt to the change. The pamphlets include brief histories of the cities, timelines of events, critical assessments of the local governments' response to the ruling, informal surveys of white and black citizens, and more. Books all 6" x 9" softcovers, staple bound in card wraps. Books all from the collection of a tobacco smoker, with attendant tanning to spines and a very faint aroma inside. Excepting the occasional corner crease and expected age tanning / shelfwear, these 70 year old pamphlets are in remarkably good condition. Overall very good+.
