A nice aesthetic item in which Mary Smith Lockwood (1831-1922) gives a brief history of the development of pottery. Mrs. Lockwood's Hand-Book is representative of the remarkable popularity of ceramics in the late 19th century; by the 1860s in England and the 1870s in America, people were avidl collecting, painting, producing, and writing about ceramics. This book conta a photographic frontispiece, and a bibliography. Covers lightly spotted, extremities of spine rubbed, front hinge internally cracked, else very good.

Some rubbing and fraying along lower edge of binding. Head of spine, and lower front corner bumped, thus slightly affecting very first leaves throughout. Upper front corner of half-title neatly cut-out (not affecting lettering). Paper margin slightly age-toned. Binding in overall good-, interior in good to very good, plates in very good condition.
