Moderate soiling to parchment. Top edges gilt, other edges untrimmed. 8vo (14.3 x 22.6cm). Hinges sound. Offset browning to endpapers. A very little scattered foxing. Owner's signature to front free endpaper, owner's inscription to blank front endpage. Portrait frontis with tissue guard (bust of Marcus Aurelius in British Museum). Printed in red & black throughout on laid paper. Decorative initials. A beautifully produced edition, finely printed by the Chiswick Press, of the renowned classicist George Long's 'admirable translation' (ODNB) of Marcus Aurelius' Meditations, first published in 1862 as 'Thoughts on the Emperor M. Aurelius Antonius'. Chiswick Press emblem to final page. Now scarce. ~Robust packaging. Overseas orders trackable on request. Size: 204pp. Binding sound, text unmarked.
