No date on copyright page. 300 pages, followed by 1 page of advertisements. 32 black and white pictorial plates and 3 maps. Overall good condition. Binding is strong and tight. Some light rubbing to the corners and spine. Spine is toned. No major bumping. Pages are toned and foxed, but free of any marks or writing. A previous owner has written their name neatly on the front free endpaper (not Lovejoy's), no other markings to be found. Overall good condition. This book is from the collection of Thomas Lovejoy. Dr. Lovejoy was an influential ecologist, field biologist, and activist; former head of the Amazon Biodiversity Center, World Wildlife Fund, and advisor to the United Nations and Smithsonian Institution. He is credited with introducing the term biological diversity to the mainstream environmental movement. In addition, he was a passionate collector of books on the natural world. Blue cloth exterior w/title and design in gold on spine. Upper spine is lightly frayed and chipped. Ex-lib copy, but no exterior markings and only a small stamp on the title page. Most plates are nature related - birds and fish and some landscape. Maps are of the island visited - Swan, Blanquilla, and contour map of Honduran Sea Bottom. Not a collector's copy, but a good and attractive reading copy.

Blue cloth, early ink owner name on endpaper, blind embossed owner name stamp on corner of title page. 300 pp. The result of 6 years of yacht cruising (as the guest of Sir Frederic Johnstone and his wife, Lady Wilton, who caught many of the fish) in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, studying birds, fish, reptiles, plants, geology, etc. Includes a 13 page chapter on fishing for tarpon (there is no mention of actually catching one, but there is a picture of the author with a 119 lb. tarpon caught on rod and reel), grouper, shark, barracuda, manta, etc. Very good.
