Hardcover. Etat : Good. Hardcover, no dust jacket. Bound in navy blue cloth over boards with gold lettering to the spine and decoration to the back cover. Dated 1932 on the title page. No date on copyright page. 271 pages. Good condition. Binding is tight and corners are square. Some light wear to the spine and corners. Cloth has a bit of rubbing. Pages are lightly and evenly toned. Foxed on the endpapers and title page. No marks or writing to be found. Overall good condition. This book is from the collection of Thomas Lovejoy. Dr. Lovejoy was an influential ecologist, field biologist, and activist; former head of the Amazon Biodiversity Center, World Wildlife Fund, and advisor to the United Nations and Smithsonian Institution. He is credited with introducing the term 'biological diversity' to the mainstream environmental movement. In addition, he was a passionate collector of books on the natural world. The diaries and accounts of Willoughby P. Lowe, a naturalist collector, and one of the last professional collectors, of the British Museum. The stories include: My First Venture Abroad, Expedition Through Kenya and Uganda to the Nile, A Trip to S. Nigeria, Sierra Leonne and Senegal, A Journey through Siam, and an Expedition to Madagascar. Illustrated by Henrik Gronvold, a Danish naturalist and artist known for his illustrations of birds, and J. P. W. Lowe, a British artist. In the original blue cloth binding. Externally, smart with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting and age toning to the endpapers. Good. book.
