8vo; original reddish cloth; no dustwrapper; endpaper map; pp. 416, incl. index; lovely scraper-board illustrations by J. R. Dugmore. Spine rather sunned and mottled; water-stain to lower cover; some wear to extremities; previous owner's name on front pastedown; moderate foxing to endpapers, sporadic light foxing elsewhere. Fair to good condition. "This book attempts to help the sportsman who is new to East Africa to classify his bag and - as far as my own experience goes - the methods usually employed to make one. In this connection, I would explain the numerous short anecdotes of a personal nature which the reader of this book will encounter. I fully realise that many of these have no striking significance, but - quite apart from their human interest - they are deliberately inserted with the object of providing colour and background in order to give some idea of how these tropical game-birds tend to appear to the man behind the gun. Incidentally, I am endeavoring to show that almost as much fun can be obtained from vast tracts of bush, swamp or mountain in less-civilised countries as in the better-ordered, but more stereotyped, shoots in our own.".
