Octavo, pp. [i-iv] v-viii 1-216, five inserted plates with illustrations, one in color, by Warwick Reynolds, original pictorial blue-gray boards with gray linen shelf back, front and spine panels stamped in light blue, white and black. First edition. Sixteen fairy tales and stories of magic, etc. retold by MacKenzie, who specialized in this sort of thing. "In a sense the East is the fairyland of the West -- the source of innumerable wonder tales from inexhaustible storehouses of romance. The collection in this volume has been gleaned from countries as far apart as Egypt and Japan, Afghanistan and Polynesia." - from MacKenzie's preface. The author was an archaeologist whose nonfiction included FOOTPRINTS OF EARLY MAN and ANCIENT MAN IN BRITAIN. Boards rubbed and worn at corners, spine panel dusty, else a very good copy. (#119454).

The emphasis is on adventure and romance rather than magic and witchcraft, etc. A fine copy in very good pictorial dust jacket with chip from bottom edge of spine panel. (#119455).
