"From the diary of an English lad (a protege of the duchess of the fifth Duke of Marlborough) who served in the British frigate Macedonian during her memorable action with the American frigate United States; who afterware deserted and entered the American Navy, was recaptured by the British amd confined in a South African prison and, on being released, again enlisted in the United States Navy." Maclay published several books on American naval history; his father and grandfather were both United States Senators from Pennsylvania.

Moderate or more shelf wear on the boards, edge and corner wear about moderate, a couple of old paint spots on the boards. For the most part, the text is pretty clean with only a rare mark or smudge. Bit of lean to the spine from storage.
