Edition originale
First edition. Quarto, pp [x], 369, [2]. This is the first complete printing of this work, from manuscripts in the National Archives of Mexico. The work consists of two parts, the second part only has been translated into English, as it relates more particularly to Arizona, which was part of the province of Sonora or the Pimeria Alta: sections of the book also relate to New Mexico. Mange (or Manje) provided the military support for Fr. Kino's expedition and his journal is a supplement to Kino's journals. Mange, judging from his literary style -- there is no biographical information on him -- was an educated man, with a keen scientific curiosity. He strongly disagreed, wrongly, with Kino, holding that California was an island against Kino's theory and later proof that it was an archipelago. Bound in the original blue cloth. Fine copy.
