Februar 1900[1] in Rajewskaja[2] bei Jekaterinodar; April 1984 in New York) war eine Kosakin, im Ersten Weltkrieg diente sie in der Russischen Armee. 1917 erlebte sie die Oktoberrevolution und floh in die Vereinigten Staaten. Sie war zudem Schriftstellerin und Ausdruckstänzerin zu klassischer Musik.[3] Ihre Autobiographie machte das Kosakenmädchen" bekannt, wurde aber auch als unglaubwürdig kritisiert. Clean pages and plates with light tanning and mild foxing throughout. More pronounced to free endpapers and pastedowns. Pen inscription to front pastedown. Binding remains firm. Boards have mild edge-wear with slight rubbing to surfaces and bumping to corners. Gilt lettering is bright and clear. Moderate sunning to spine and edges with crushing to spine ends. Book has a slight forward lean. Visible wear and water marks to spine and boards.

Hard Cover. Etat : Good. No Jacket. First Edition. First edition, now rare. 312pp, brown cloth covered boards with wear to the edges of the spine and a little loss to the top of the spine. Eight b + w illustrations. Original owner's name to the flyleaf, a small mark to the margins of a couple of pages, traces of the removal of a small bookseller's label from the back inner board, otherwise internally clean. The author joined up to fight with the Cossack soldiers in the First World War in Russia, until 1919.

A very nice bright copy. Clean and tight. Rare Albatross edition. The Albatross publishing house had a remarkable history in the 1930s (linked to the popular Tauchnitz editions). These colour-coded paperbacks with their albatross symbol influenced Allen Lane in the design of Penguin Books. The name Albatross was chosen as it was similar in many languages.
