Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. 1st Edition. Original publisher's black cloth binding with gilt lettering on front cover and spine. Color illustration with gilt accents on front cover. 5 1/4" x 8." 392 pages, complete. Bibliography and General Index in back. Pages are very clean and intact except for light age toning, the faint occasional mark, and a few creases. Covers are very clean and intact except for slightly bumped tips, slight wear to extremities, and light rubbing. A Very Good copy. A work of Christian Science and apologetics that focuses on the subject of immortality and the afterlife. The book features the characters of Reverend H. Miles and Frank Verace, an atheist and "materialist." Miles happens upon Frank, the latter of whom is experiencing immense grief, having recently lost a loved one. Miles encourages Frank to be open to hearing about Christian principles and thus commences a series of discussions between the two. Through their discussions, author Harry Marschner, a reverend himself, conveys Christian ideas about death, evolution, and other religious and existential subjects. The following are a few examples of the more specific subjects addressed in this book: whether humans evolved from animals, whether the Biblical Creation story is to be taken literally or not, the connection between thoughts and the human body, the persistence of one's unique personality despite bodily changes throughout life, and pantheism and theism.

First edition. Octavo. 392 pp. Publisher's black cloth with gilt spine and cover lettering, gilt and silver stamped figures of the sphinx and the phoenix on the front cover. Small date stamp in rear endpaper, else a very handsme and clean copy.A long and in depth examination of occult occurrences by the author in the form of an almost stream-of-consciousness dialogue. It is Platonic in design; questions are asked by various characters and answers are given. Astral bodies, telepathy. communing with spirits, etc., are all discussed in this book. It seems that Marschner's chief focus, being a catholic, is the survival of the individual soul after death and he is a believer in the occult but insists that all occurrences are directed by the hand of God.
