With anecdotes on Monte Carlo, comments on luck, a defence of roulette, the games played at Monte Carlo, as well as Maxim's article to 'The New York Herald'.Written by Sir Hiram Maxim, an inventor known for inventing the first automatic machine gun. He claimed to have invented the lightbulb, and experimented with powered flight. Maxim held patents for curling irons, numerous electric lamps and steam pumps.Undated; dated from copies held on Jisc.Bound in the charming decorative cloth depicting the author.With illustrations throughout by G. A. Stevens.A contemporary ownership inscription to the front pastedown which is illegible but belonged to someone in Ashford, Middlesex in 1907.The first, and only, edition of this work. In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally generally smart; cloth is a little discoloured and bumped to the extremities and the head and tail of the spine. Ownership inscription to the front endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound, with slight strain to both hinges which remain firm; there is the occasional strain through the text. Pages have just the odd spot. Very Good. book.
