Dj edges are creased with numerous small nicks. Some loss to spine ends and heavy tape repairs to inside. Additional photos are available upon request. A beautifully illustrated and comprehensive first edition survey of the Thames Valley from Cricklade to Staines, with plates and colour folding maps. The influence of the Thames within British history is notable and this survey aimed to stimulate those who know and lived in the Thames Valley to protect it and to encourage others to visit. The volume was prepared by The Earl of Mayo, S. D. Adshead and Patrick Abercrombie with the assistance of W. Harding Thompson for the Thames Valley Branch of the Council for the Preservation of Rural England. There is also a preface by John Buchan. The volume is split into two parts with the first giving a general survey of existing condition of the Thames Valley and the second outlining recommendations for its protection.With thirty two plates and with six colour folding maps.Collated, complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, generally smart with some fading and a few marks to the boards and some fading to the spine. The front hinge is starting but remains firm. There is a previous owner stamp for H. C. D Cooper Architect to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages. Very Good. book.

Illustrations include thirty-two black-and-white photograph plates, some of which were taken by the Earl of Mayo, as well as five colour folding maps.The topographical survey is divided into two parts, the first being the general survey of existing conditions, while the second part concerns recommendations for the area. Chapter headings include 'Towns and Villages', 'Bridges', 'Landscape Character', and 'Special Areas to be Preserved'.Prepared by The Earl of Mayo, S. D. Adshead and Patrick Abercrombie, with assistance from W. Harding Thompson, a member of the Thames Valley Branch of the Council for the Preservation of Rural England.Collated, complete. A bit of spotting to top edge, with a few marks to front and rear wraps. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout, as well as plates and folding maps.
