Clean pages with light tanning and mild foxing throughout. Front free endpaper is missing. Binding remains firm. Boards have mild edge-wear with slight rubbing to surfaces and bumping to corners. Gilt lettering is bright and clear. Unclipped jacket. Panels and spine have light edgewear with tears and creases. Visible wear marks to spine and panels. Jacket is in removable plastic cover.

His was "Letters and Art In New Zealand." This is a completely revised and extended version of that publication, minus the art compenent and thus concentrating on literary works, covering pre-colonilisation publications and in seven additional chronological chapters surveying the development of literature in NZ up to the late 1950s. An excellent work for those interested in the evolution of NZ literature. 173 pages including references to quotations and index. Bright red hard covers with gilt spine titles VG++, small name address stamp top right FFEP, repeated top right title page, text block otherwise NF. Gray DJ with black titles, white decorations VG+ with light creasing top edges, light soiling at back.

He pioneered the appreciation and study of the painter Fr ancis Hodgkins, and he wrote several biographies. The autobiograp hical fragments collected here have been edited to make a coheren t volume, tracing his origins in Taihape, to school and universit y in Wellington, to schoolteaching in Nelson, to Cambridge and th rough his wartime experiences and role as editor of Centennial Pu blications. It includes his shrewd observations of social behavio ur, recorded with a dry wit. Editorial Reviews About the Author Eric Hall McCormick was a biographer, critic, and historian. He wrote several biographies, including Portrait of Frances Hodgkins and The Friend of Keats: A Life of Charles Armitage Brow. The E. H. McCormick Non-Fiction Award was established in his honor. McC ormick was named President of Honour by the New Zealand Society o f Authors in both 1976 and 1977.
