Original publisher's green cloth lettered black on spine and upper cover.[1925] Marked up by the publisher for the 1926 edition after the author's marriage to Leslie Godfree. Kathleen Godfree n e McKane (1896-1992) was a British tennis and badminton player and the most decorated female British Olympian. She won the singles at Wimbledon twice in 1924 and 1926 and also the mixed doubles in the same years. Her husband partnered her in 1926 making their win the only one by a married couple at Wimbledon. She also had success in both the doubles and mixed doubles in other tournaments and is remembered as being one of the first female players who rushed the net and employed volleying to end points quickly. Leslie Godfree was captain of England's Wightman Cup team. Small tear to a few of the illustrations. Marked up in pen by the publisher on upper cover and spine, title-page and the preface. Very good. Slight wear, trace of label on cover otherwise very good.
