Racine, Wisconsin: Whitman Publishing Company Copyright 1916, most likely later printing with a gift notation dated 1927 on the front free endpaper. Hard-to-find book, especially in dustjacket. The cover indicates that the illustrator is Alice V. Carsey, while the title page indicates that the book is illustrated by D. J. O'Brien, and there is one additional reference on the title page to a cloth bound edition with 10 additional full page pictures in color and in black and white by Mae Herrick Scannel. This book contains black and white illustrations signed O'Brien. The book also has the original Whitman bookmark laid in loosely at the front. Grayish pink boards with color illustration mounted on the front, 122 pages, illustrated dustjacket. There is some light rubbing to the spine ends, good hinges, sound text block, very clean pages with the aforenoted gift inscription and old price stamp on the front free endpaper, no other markings, no chips or tears. The mylar protected dustjacket has several small edge chips and closed tears, the largest one at the lower front, about 1/2" high and 2" wide. A clean and sound copy. Hard Cover. Good/Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

Pictorial boards. Etat : Near Fine. Ella Dolbear Lee and Hazel Frazee (illustrateur). Wonderful collection from Whitman Publishing out of Racine, Wisconsin, including 4 original titles and the uncommon pictorial box which houses them. The titles are "Molly's New Neighbor", "The Story of Mowie" and "Billie the Turk", all 3 written by Anna Darby Merrill and illustrated by Ella Dolbear Lee; and "My Book of Ten Fishes", written by Rosalie G. Mendel and illustrated by Hazel Frazee. All 4 titles --uniform 16mos-- are clean and Near Fine in their pictorial boards and the lovely decorative box has held up nicely as well and is solid and VG+, with light wear (just a touch of abrading) at the front panel and a bit of soiling to the bottom of the box. A very handsome set.
