1st edition. The author was born in Manchester in 1890 and he sailed on his first voyage two momnths before his fifteenth birthday. He seved four years apprenticeship in the full-rigged ships Main and Arno. This book covers his first three years on the Main, giving an absorbing, authentic account of hardship, courage and expert seamanship. Pp.x/306, colour frontispiece + 17 further photographs and line illustrations, folding plans to end, endpapers trach chart of the Long Voyage. Inscribed by the author plus owner's gift message to half-title page. Blue cloth, bump to lower front corner. Dustwrapper has wear to top of spine and chipped wear to lower front corner with loss to corner tip. G+/G+.
